A Short History of Dunchurch Band
Dunchurch Band has been part of local musical life for more than a century. Founded in 1910 by Alf Timms and George Elkington, the Band began as Dunchurch Brass Band and quickly became an important part of the village community.
One of the Band’s most influential early figures was Bert Holden, who joined in 1919 and served for 65 years as Secretary, Treasurer and Contest Secretary . His dedication helped shape the Band’s long tradition of commitment and service.
Over the years, Dunchurch Band has enjoyed contest success, national appearances and overseas performances. A major highlight came in 1989, when the Band won the Area Championships and earned promotion to the First Section.
After a difficult period in the late 1980s, the remaining members worked hard to rebuild the Band. With new musical leadership, renewed community support and the development of a Training Band, Dunchurch Band grew again and continued to perform for audiences at home and abroad.
Today, the Band focuses on concerts, local events, charity performances and community music-making as well as taking part in contests. It remains proud of its history, its long-serving members and its links to the families who helped establish the Band.
